Chuches with porch

Chuches with porch

Features of Our Region, several small rural churches in our area have porches. These structures were originally used to shelter the main entrance of the buildings and, in the past, to accommodate the unbaptized and excommunicated, who were not allowed to enter the churches.

Some of these porches are true artistic masterpieces, such as those in Ry and Bosc-Bordel, made of carved Renaissance wood and listed as Historic Monuments.

Also worth discovering: the recently restored porch in Vieux-Rue, the one in Bois-Héroult, which has been transformed into a baptismal chapel, and the stone bell tower-porch in Rebets.
