28e Fêtes Médiévales à l'Abbaye de Mortemer
Located in the heart of the Lyons-la-Forêt Forest and founded in the 12thby Henry I Beauclerc, son of William the Conqueror, Mortemer Abbey is a historic site with a prestigious past. Empress Matilda and her son Henry II Plantagenet also played a major role in its construction following the death of Henry I Beauclerc in 1135. Although in ruins since the Revolution, the Abbey remains a place steeped in history. It will host a new edition of its medieval festival on Saturday, August 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and on Sunday, August 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., a new edition of its medieval festival. Come discover it during these two days of festivities that will transport you several centuries back to the time of medieval Normandy. Your day will be filled with numerous shows and activities. As every year, troupes will set up camp within the park: among others, the “Equi Vie” troupe will let you watch dressage demonstrations, %E0 impressive acrobatic feats, and %E0 jousting tournaments. But be on your guard, because not far from there, battles will take place between the knights of the “Ran Normands,” the “Fiers Normands,” “les Ours de Muspelhein,” and the “Historiae Vivae” association. All of this will be accompanied by musicians from “Pastourel,” who will perform medieval tunes for you. A medieval market will also be set up, where you can find handcrafted wooden items and even reproductions of weapons that will make you feel like a true knight. Candles and lithotherapy stones, necklaces, flags, swords and axes, numerous leather goods, and fantastic decorative items—come and discover them for yourself! To add a touch of sweetness to your day, there will be a wide selection of artisanal foods with a medieval themeEval, and after a few stops at the vendors selling honey candies, artisanal jams, or tiaras, let yourself be tempted by meads and traditional wines. On-site dining will be provided by the Bistrot du Bec Fin, and picnics are also permitted within the Abbey grounds. This year, the Abbey is also hosting a late-night event on Saturday, August 15, until 10:30 p.m., so you can enjoy the beauty of the illuminated ruins and the medieval market. Please note: On Saturday, August 15, a dinner show will be held starting at 8:00 p.m. in the heart of the illuminated ruins: horse dressage, a fire show, and many other surprises await you. Prices are 13? per adult, 9? per child ages 2 to 12, and free for children under 2. Parking is free, and dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash. Please note: During the two days of medieval festivities, the interior of the Abbatial Palace (Museum of Furnished Rooms and Museum of Legends and Ghosts) is closed to the public. You can visit all the outdoor areas: the cloister, the dovecote, the church ruins, the Path of the Dukes of Normandy… in addition to the medieval shows. Our canine friends are welcome but must be kept on a leash. Information and Reservations Email: mortemer@orange.fr / Phone: 06.71.75.48.84 or 06.12.16.13.12
